Contraceptive injections

Depo-Provera is a product containing progesterone, which changes the cervical mucus so that it is impenetrable to sperm, and the lining of the uterus to prevent implantation of a fertilized egg.

Pros: The shot may be used by women who cannot use the two-component (estrogen-containing) birth control pills; you must remember about this method of contraception only once a quarter.

Cons: With Depo-Provera you cannot adjust the dose if the body does not tolerate the hormonal composition. Prolonged bleeding during treatment has also been reported.

After a few years of use, it may promote the formation of osteoporosis. After the shots are discontinued, restoration of fertility may take a while.
