Ultrasound scan to monitor foetal development

Prenatal ultrasound scan – enables confirmation of properly implanted (that is in the uterus) pregnancy (singleton or multiple), including visualization of the embryo and foetal heart rate, evaluation of the growth and development of the foetus. It gives the opportunity to identify possible defects and malformations, and to assess foetal well-being. The scan is transabdominal and/or transvaginal.

In accordance with the recommendations of the Polish Gynaecological Society (PTG), an ultrasound scan should be performed at least three times during pregnancy at:

  • 11-14 weeks gestation
  • 18-26 weeks gestation
  • after 30 weeks gestation
